On Thursday, 60 students represented Whitefriars in the ACC Cross Country, in which we finished 4th (St Bede’s were Div 1 Victors).
In difficult conditions, the boys showed great determination to do well and pushed it right until the end. I was really impressed with the comradery amongst the boys within the year levels, something that we always do well with in championship events.
A lot of effort and commitment goes into the Cross Country team and I would like take this opportunity to acknowledge Gav Kellar who does an amazing job managing and coaching around 80 or so boys over 6 year levels. Rain, Hail, Frost or Fog (it’s never shining) he is out there with the boys running the frosty Mullum Mullum track or WFC ovals at 7am each week throughout Terms 2 & 3 and is on hand coordinating the National Race Relay events on some weekends too. Huge Effort by him, and shows how much he cares about the boys and our Cross Country program.
On an individual basis, Max Andison (year 8), finished 2nd overall with a time of 10:30 (over 3km). Considering he finished 19th with a time of 11:25 last year is a reflection of the effort Max has put in with his training over the past 12 months to achieve a great result.
