Ten weeks ago, I signed up as a volunteer to help organise the Music Careers Expo at the Corner Hotel in Richmond. I was given the role of MC for the event, and when an opportunity arose for a band to perform in front of professional artists and ARIA award-winners, I took the chance.
I contacted a band from Whitefriars called Redacted, which includes four Year 12 students, and proposed performing “SOS” by ABBA, with myself and Ethan Brearley as lead vocalists. Luckily, we were given the chance to perform, and it was an incredible experience. We also received lots of positive feedback from the professional artists who attended.
MCing for a crowd of 600-700 people was a significant experience. I felt the nerves, but I did my best. The expo provided useful insights into the music industry and displayed to us what it takes to become a professional in this field. Overall, it was a rewarding opportunity and valuable experience.
