The VCE Physics Study Design encourages students to develop experimental skills as well as theoretical understanding. Over the last few weeks, Year 12 students have been carrying out their Extended Practical Investigation, which involves designing and carrying out an experiment before presenting findings in poster form.
The boys quickly learn that designing an experiment is rarely a straightforward task. Challenges involve creating low-risk activities using resources available at school or at home. Some students had to rethink their ideas up to three times!
The boys’ creativity was on display. They used equipment ranging from low tech (wires, nails, weights, balls) to high tech (lasers, 3D printed aeroplane wing sections, model maglev trains).
These images showcase a sample of experiments.
